Dirt Road Financial keeps your farm, business and personal books. They hold sensitive information, so this page says plainly what we keep, what we don't, and who can see it. The short version: your books are yours, we don't sell or share your information, and we keep as little as we can.
What we keep
- Your account: your name, email, and a two-step sign-in code setup. Your password is stored scrambled (hashed); nobody can read it, including us.
- Your books: what you enter or import, like entries, categories, fields, payees, budgets, bills and goals, account balances and pay stubs.
- Statement lines: for each line on a bank or card statement you import, the date, description, amount and check number, and the name you give the account.
- W-2 numbers: the dollar amounts in boxes 1, 2, 17 and 19, the employer's name and the year, plus what you tell us for your tax estimate (how you file, number of children, and so on).
- Files you attach to a book: co-op invoices and scale ticket photos are kept with that book, so you can open them later.
- A history of changes to each book, so you and anyone you share it with can see who changed what.
- Answers you give when setting up a personal book (how you're paid, your home, household and goals), used only to set the book up for you.
What we don't keep
- Statement files. A statement PDF or CSV is read when you upload it, and the file itself isn't saved. Account numbers, names and addresses printed on it are not kept.
- W-2 files and Social Security numbers. A W-2 PDF is read for its dollar boxes and then discarded. Your Social Security number is removed before the W-2 is read and is never stored.
- Bank passwords. We never ask for them. You bring statements in by downloading them yourself.
- Payment card numbers. None are collected today. When paid plans start, payments will be handled by a payment company, and we won't see or store your card number.
Who can see your information
- You, and only the people you share a book with, at the access level you choose (view, enter, or full). Your imported statement lines are visible only to you.
- The people who run Dirt Road Financial can see each account's email, name, sign-up and last sign-in dates, and how many books it has, to run the service and reach you about it. We don't look at what's in your books unless you ask us for help with something, or the law requires it.
- Nobody else. We don't sell your information, show you ads, or share it with anyone for marketing.
Your tax information
W-2 numbers and anything else you enter for a tax estimate are used only to give you that estimate and show it back to you. We won't use them for anything else, or share them, without your written permission first.
Companies that help run the service
A few companies handle parts of the service for us, under their own security and privacy commitments: Supabase stores the data and handles sign-in, Vercel runs the website, and Resend sends account emails like sign-up confirmations and password resets. They process your information only to provide those services to us.
How it's protected
- Every account needs two-step sign-in.
- Information travels over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) and is stored encrypted by our hosting provider.
- Each book can only be read by its owner and the people it's shared with; the database itself enforces that.
No system is perfectly secure. If we ever learn that your information was exposed, we'll tell you promptly.
Deleting your information
You can delete any book you own at any time from its settings, with everything in it, including its files. To delete your whole account, email support@dirtroadfinancial.com and we'll delete it and your books. If your access ever ends, your books stay readable so you can export them first.
Children
Dirt Road Financial is for adults. Please don't create an account if you're under 18.
Changes
If we change what we keep or how we use it, we'll update this page and its date, and tell you in the app or by email when it matters.
